Designed by Johnny Murphy and Richmond Hill Land Company in 1993, Buckhead required two years of negotiations with the timber company that owned most of the raw land in the area before Johnny successfully contracted to purchase nearly 600 acres over a five year time frame. The real challenge of Buckhead was to master plan a large neighborhood park encompassing several independent developments totaling 500 home sites, with homes in three distinct price ranges.

By this time, the area had experienced nearly ten years of selling new homes and the market and name awareness of Richmond Hill was on the rise. A special impact fee was imposed on the buyers, the proceeds of which went to make improvements within the area for recreation.

In 2004, Buckhead has over 300 homes completed, ranging in price from $200,000 to over $450,000, while the balance of the area within the original master plan is under development and projected to sell out by 2007.
